Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the English Translation Service (ETS) of the Documentation Division, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management. ETS is responsible for translating official United Nations documents and publications into English. The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Service.
ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the self-reviser/reviser will be responsible for the following duties: (1) Revision of translations and original summary records on a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations; (2) Drafting, mostly without revision, summary records and serving as monitor of précis-writing teams; (3) Development of new terminology for use, as required; (4) Counselling and assisting translators and précis-writers; (5) Performing other related duties, as required, including programming; (6)Translating, mostly without revision, texts covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations, particularly those subjects requiring experience and recognized proficiency.

EducationA first-level university degree from a university or institution of equivalent status. Candidates for this position must have passed the United Nations Competitive Examination for English Translators and Précis-writers.
Work ExperienceA minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in translation, precis-writing and self-revision, and use of relevant computer software, electronic tools and databases, of which three preferably should have been in the United Nations or similar international organization.
LanguagesA perfect command of English and thorough knowledge of two other official languages of the United Nations is required.
AssessmentThe evaluation process may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
